Upon arrival at Putao airport in the remote far-north of Myanmar, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your guest house. Putao lies in a flat valley and is the jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, villages, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. After a brief freshen-up we shall take an orientation walk in and around Putao. We shall have our dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.

Sat - Day 02.  Putao – Namhtunkoo. (trek)

After breakfast we visit the attractive Putao market, often busy with local ethnic tribes. Later, we head off towards Namhtunkoo Lisu village, situated to the west of Putao on the road to Mt. Lancrumadin, a distance of 20 km which should take us about 5 hours in total. First we walk through cultivated fields, passing some small villages. After about one hour walking on flat land, we enter the wilderness of lush tropical evergreen forest. After 3 hours trekking through this terrain we reach the approx 2250 feet, 680 metre shoulder of the Namhtun mountain range, from where the path descends. To the far west we will see the blazing summit of the 11,530 feet, 3,495 metre high Lancrumadin Mountain, situated toward the Indian border. We continue to trek for another hour through farmland to the village. We check in at our designated home and then stroll to Namtun creek, which is usually busy during late afternoon with local people on their return home from the fields; a great opportunity for social interaction. We shall have our dinner and overnight a local home.

Sun - Day 03.  Namhtunkoo - Mulashidi – Putao. (trek/jeep)

After breakfast and we shall explore the village and find out about the daily lives of the villagers. We bid goodbye to the locals and then walk some 45 minutes through fields along Namhtun creek, crossing the creek a couple of times. Once we get into the wildness the terrain immediate becomes steeper and the trail leads up to 2,295 ft, 700 metres. We trek for about 2 hours along a quite strenuous jungle trail through dense forest filled with bamboo groves. The trail then gradually descends through farmland, and we can enjoy a spectacular view of the Putao plain and the twisting, snake-like Mula Creek. After about 2 hours easy trekking we arrive at Mulashidi village where we can enjoy the beautiful mountain backdrop, snow-capped in winter. Later we meet our jeep and return back to Putao. We shall have dinner and overnight at our guesthouse.

Mon - Day 04.  Putao - Machanbaw – Putao. (jeep)

Following breakfast we re-visit the attractive Putao market and then embark on today’s excursion by jeep to the attractive, colonial-style town of Machanbaw, about a one-hour, 20 km ride away. We leave the jeep at Naungkhine village and walk across the small suspension bridge over the Malikha river to Machanbaw. Our time in town includes a visit to the small market and a walk up to Stone Dragon Park (about a 20 minute walk) to view the snake-like rock formations. We then walk back to the riverfront, cross the suspension bridge that spans the Malikha River to Naungkhine, and meet the jeep for the ride back to Putao. We shall have our dinner and overnight at our guesthouse.

Tue - Day 05.  Departure.

Enjoy your last breakfast in the far-north at the guesthouse. After breakfast there may be time to visit the market for some last-minute shopping and photography. Should time permit, you will visit one of the local villages where you can interact with the local people and observe a traditional Rawan or Lisu dance performance. Your northern adventure ends with a transfer to the airport and your onward flight to Mandalay, Yangon or Myitkyina.
